Flash rust can occur after blasting due to excessive moisture, improper dilution, or prolonged exposure before priming. The type of blast media used can also play a role—certain sands with high iron content may contribute to rust formation. To prevent this, it’s crucial to follow the correct preparation and application steps.
How BOR-8 Works
BOR-8 Anti-Flash Rust Treatment is a highly concentrated additive formulated for water or water-based solutions, including pressure cleaning and hydro-blasting equipment. Adding just 2% BOR-8 to your water-blast cleaning process prevents flash rusting on steel surfaces for up to three weeks.
Application Methods
- Blasted or Power Tool-Cleaned Steel: Apply BOR-8 neat for maximum rust inhibition.
- Dipping Small Components: Ideal for parts treated with non-acid rust removers that lack an inhibitor.
- Post-Blasting Protection: Reapply BOR-8 to the surface after blasting to maintain protection.
Overpainting and Finishing
Once dry, BOR-8 does not require surface neutralization. Simply allow it to dry and proceed with priming and painting for long-term protection.
