SLOSH FUEL TANK SEALER – NEW FORMULA

Slosh is designed for the sealing of steel and aluminium petrol and diesel tanks. Tests with dilutions of up to 85% corn ethanol show no degradation or softening of the sealer, so it is more than capable of protection against the ethanol content of modern fuel in both current E5 and proposed E10 standards.

We recommend a thorough cleaning of the tank interior with Rustbuster Tank-Kleen before the application of the sealer. Kits are available that combine Slosh and Tank-Kleen. All previously applied sealers should be removed before the application of Slosh, should you need to remove an existing/failing sealer please use Rustbuster R10-B1 Resin Remover.

This new formula is a lower viscosity (thinner) material than its predecessor allowing for ease of movement whilst inside the tank, this also allows it to easily reach all areas not pooling in areas. being of lower viscosity also makes it easier and quicker to pour out of the tank.

A 400ml can of Slosh will seal up to a ten-gallon (50 ltrs) tank and is recommended for motorcycle tanks and small cars.

An 800ml can treat a tank size of up to 20 gallons (100 ltrs).

Tips for best results with Slosh and fuel tank sealants

To read instructions for using Slosh click here>.

Here are some tips for the best results:

Do… use some nuts, washers or sharp stones as an abrasive with the Tank-Kleen solution to help remove rust and old petrol deposits.

Do… allow enough time for the tank to be 100% bone dry before you put the sealer into the tank.

Do… remove or protect anything that you do not want Slosh to seal, including plugs, fuel gauge sender units, breather pipes and filters etc.

Do Not… apply the sealer to a wet or even damp tank. It reacts with moisture and will cause a bubbling reaction.

Do Not… allow the sealer to pool in a very thick layer as this will cause the solvents to get trapped within the coating, and this can also cause a bubbling reaction.

Product description Clear coloured moisture curing polyurethane for the sealing of fuel and oil tanks.
Pack description 400ml or 800ml in clear. Also available as a small or large kit with Rustbuster Tank-Kleen.
Application Cleaning the tank

Thorough cleaning with Rustbuster SP10 Tank-Kleen caustic detergent to remove grease, dirt and fuel deposits is recommended. (If there are signs of rust in the tank, use a suitable rust remover. Please contact us for details.)

  1. Insert temporary bungs into drain holes/sender holes etc. Then put a few nuts, washers or small sharp stones in the tank.

  1. Wearing protective gloves, pour 500ml of SP10 Tank-Kleen followed by 500ml fresh water (for heavily rusted/oil/greasy tanks you may want to use only SP10 Tank-Kleen) into the tank and seal the fuel filler opening

  1. Shake the tank from side-to-side to scrub away loose surface contamination. Then empty the SP10 Tank-Kleen and nuts/washers or stones. Repeat for as long as it takes to clean the tank. You can re-use SP10 Tank-Kleen, filtering out dirt removed from the tank each time.

  1. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water until all deposits and traces of SP10 Tank-Kleen are removed. Use a power wash (but not a high-pressure wash) or shake the tank.

  1. Leave the tank to dry. The tank MUST be bone dry before using Slosh, so if possible, use a compressor to pass air through the tank.

Sealing the tank

With the tank clean and bone dry, here is the procedure for sealing the tank:

  1. Wearing protective gloves, pour all the Slosh marked bottle 1 into the tank.

  1. Move the tank from side-to-side and upside down to fully coat the interior of the tank. When you have coated the tank, put it down for twenty minutes and then repeat this process 2 more times

  1. Drain the excess sealer via the drain plug hole back into the empty tin. (DO NOT drain Slosh from the fuel filler opening as this often has an extended edge inside the tank which will prevent the sealer from draining completely.) Draining excess sealer is necessary as if deposits pool in one area this may set off a bubbling reaction while curing.

  1. The waste sealer will fully cure in the bottle and can be disposed of as dry waste. Leave the cap off to allow moisture in.

  1. After 3 hours have passed and the first coat is still tacky pour all the Slosh marked bottle 2 into the tank.

The tank can be used 24 hours after sealing but five days is recommended.
