Hot Fog Rustproofing – A Serious Solution for Long-Term Vehicle Protection

At Rustbuster, we specialise in protecting vehicles from corrosion with proven, cost-effective solutions. While full underbody restorations are extensive and expensive, many vehicles benefit from a more targeted, less invasive approach—Hot Fog Rustproofing.

This process forms part of our vehicle rustproofing services, designed to halt corrosion, displace moisture, and preserve the structural integrity of your vehicle’s underbody and internal cavities.

Preservation Over Restoration

Unlike a full underbody restoration, Hot Fog Rustproofing does not involve stripping and repainting every component. Instead, it uses a systematic treatment process—combining deep cleaning, mechanical prep, chemical rust conversion, and Corrolan lanolin-based protection systems—to achieve long-lasting results.

We don’t apply coatings over dirt or moisture. Instead, our work begins with thorough preparation to ensure that every layer of protection performs as intended.

The Rustbuster Process – Completed in Just 1.5 Days

Each vehicle is assessed by our trained applicators, who determine the best treatment plan. This may vary slightly depending on the vehicle’s age, condition, and usage.

1. Strip & Clean

  • Steam cleaning with:

    • Chlor-X Salt Remover to remove winter salt deposits

    • Traffic Film Remover to eliminate oil, dirt, and road film

    • Remove all plastic wheel arch liners and undertrays

2. Drying

  • Warm air blast using a 10 hp drying system

  • Infrared drying to fully eliminate moisture from surfaces and cavities

3. Rust Removal & Treatment

  • Remove loose flaking coatings and layered rust back to a sound surface using tools such as the MBX Metal Blaster

  • Treat remaining surface rust with either:

    • Rustbuster Fe-123 Molecular Rust Converter, or

    • Corrolan Penetrator for soaking and stabilising affected areas

4. Underbody Protection

  • Apply Corrolan Pure – a lanolin rustproofing underbody coating, known for its flexibility, water repellence, and resistance to road salt and debris

5. Hot Fog Cavity Waxing

  • Inject HOT Corrolan Active cavity wax into sills, chassis legs, doors, bonnet, boot, and inner arches

  • Wax is heated to fog into seams, folds, and hard-to-reach cavities, displacing moisture and forming a long-lasting rust barrier

6. Reassembly & Finishing

  • Reinstall all plastics and undertrays

  • Remove any visible wax overspray

  • Final inspection before handover
